New Staff/Long Pole Curriculum

As you may know already I will be adding a new staff/long pole element to the Fighting Arts program at Fountain Park. I have had many requests from people wanting to purchase staffs, thanks for your replies, it will prove to be a great addition to the present curriculum.

Staff work will really add new dynamics to your body motion:

- promotes power in your striking and clearing lines.
- creates rotational torque and speed.
- facilitates unilateral motion.
- balances and co-ordinates left and right sides of the body.
- enhances gross motor movement and body mechanics.
- heightens your awareness of range and spatial relationship.

It ties in so seamlessly with the rest of the material as well. What will become more evident is the nature of adaptability that the arts SHOULD possess. You shouldn't have to learn each weapon or "tool" separately or treat them differently. Any tool whether it is bladed, blunt, fixed or flexible is really just an extension of your body and while they each possess different attributes they still rely solely on body motion to make them functional. Staff training will help develop your empty hand skills dramatically by adding the functional attributes mentioned above. I am excited to get going and I know you will appreciate the new format and your training will benefit from it.
