Classes in Cochrane, AB

The brand new Cochrane Martial Arts Centre has included the Progressive Fighting Arts curriculum into their existing program. Classes run on Monday evening 8:00-9:30pm and Tuesday evening 6:00-7:15pm. The first class had 14 people in attendance and it was a real eye opener to the group. It not only exposed and showcased several new arts but it added a new dimension to martial arts training in general. The players were from different backgrounds; Muay Thai, Karate, Jiu Jitsu and freestyle and each picked up a particular element of the new variety. This will definitely become a dynamic group and I am excited to grow and progress along with this new club.

What to expect:

The class curriculum contains elements of NSI Modern Arnis, Filipino Martial Arts, Muay Thai, Boxing, modified Wing Chun, joint locks and control manoeuvres and NSI Renegade JKD. A typical class would embrace as many training elements as possible, incorporating bag work to develop striking tools such as hands, feet, elbows and knees. Modern Arnis enhances attributes such as speed, timing, tempo and targeting at an unprecedented rate by utilizing single and double stick drills. Double stick training teaches coordination, ambidexterity, movement principles and gross motor development while single stick amplifies your aliveness of footwork, pressure/zoning principles, interception skills and entry capabilities. These skills are directly transferable to improvised weapons and, more importantly, empty hand. It will empower you to move seamlessly through all ranges from striking to locking controls. It allows you to find your "flow", so to speak, and just react and move naturally, efficiently and effectively. The environment is clean, safe and FUN!
